Sir John partnered with Luminess to create the range.
For months, Sir John, aka Beyoncé’s makeup artist, has been teasing something special. Back in February, Sir John announced that he had two makeup licensing deals, and until now, no one knew exactly when the projects would appear or just how fierce they’d be. As of today, however, we can announce that Sir John has partnered with Luminess Cosmetics for a Lion King makeup collection. Roar, am I right?
With Beyoncé in the role of Nala, it’s only fitting that Sir John is the one turning The Lion King into a series of beauty products that will bring out your inner jungle cat. And if previous Disney-inspired collections like M.A.C. Aladdin and Colourpop Disney Villains are any indication, it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun to treat our inner child to some beautiful makeup.
Disney’s The Lion King Limited Edition Collection by Sir John x Luminess contains all the makeup a grown-up Disney kid could want. It’s packaged with classic imagery from the movie, like close-ups of Nala, Simba, and the iconic standing-on-a-cliff moment, and the lipstick tubes each close to reveal a lion — perfect for Leo season.
First up are the palettes, plural. The Kingdom Sculpting Palette ($42) contains six shades of contouring and complexion-brightening magic. (Lions do have a sculpted face shape, when you think about it.) The colors include a muted pink blush, a red-brown, two shades of medium brown, and one deep brown. They’re each named after favorite Lion King characters, like Pumbaa and Marula. If you prefer to focus on glow, opt for the large-pan Circle of Life Highlighter ($40), a shimmering golden pink.
With your face carved like the cliffs of Simba’s kingdom, draw your attention upward with the Can’t Wait to be Queen Eye Shadow Palette ($42). The 12 shades contain all the bronze and brown colors of a lion’s mane, from matte brick to shimmery yellow and gold. There are even more shimmers in green, blue, and a regal purple that, I’ll tell you right now, every Leo in your life is going to love. It looks like a six-six split of shimmer and matte pans, perfect for everything from a muted Lion King movie night look to a head-turning Lion King on Broadway look.
Next, we’ve got lip products in matte, liquid, and tinted balm form. Be Brave Matte Lipstick ($24) is a badass bullet embossed with lion scratches. It comes in two shades: Lion’s Mane (neutral, nude pink) and Pounce (bright orange-red). Be Prepared Liquid Lipstick ($24) is a highly-pigmented gloss, also available in two shades of red (a deeper red this time) and brown (a very ’90s rich, dark brown.) Finally, the Legacy Tinted Lip Balm ($24) is perfect for any Lion King lover in your life, or just toss it in your bag to channel some Nala energy for your summer.
The collection will drop on Luminess Cosmetics’ website on June 15, ulta and disney on June 16, and hit Ulta stores on July 1. That’s plenty of time to play around with the products before the movie arrives in theaters on July 19.

If you’ve been anxiously waiting for the release of the all-new Disney’s The Lion King, we have exciting news to tide you over with until its July 19th premiere. Sir John Barnett, who is often the mastermind behind Beyoncé’s impeccable face beat, teamed up with cosmetics brand Luminess on a collection inspired by the film.
The collection, which includes eyeshadow and sculpting palettes, lipsticks, and highlighter, was an important collaboration for Barnett for several reasons.
Beyoncé voices the character of Nala in the film, so the collaboration with Barnett already made sense. However, Barnett partnered with Luminess because he knew the quality would be on point. “For me, as a makeup artist, it has to be good. It’s the pay-off, it’s impactful. It has to really be dense in colors,” Barnett tells HelloGiggles. He also wanted the packaging to be good enough to be cherished as a collector’s item. “I want it to be memorable 10 years from now,” he says. “Even if you’re hitting pan, you still have the package, you’re still holding on to it.”
There are two palettes in the collection—there’s the Kingdom Sculpting Palette, which includes six shades, while the Can’t Wait To Be Queen Eyeshadow Palette features 12 shades, with some named after the movie characters.
While designing the collection, Barnett frequently traveled to South Africa where he found shade inspiration from the landscape. He described the landscape as having “supernatural neutrals,” which sounds magical for an eyeshadow palette.
Barnett is also proud of the versatility of the collab. “You look at this collection and it speaks to all different complexions,” he says. “I work with all kinds of women, from Harlem to Hong Kong, and so I had to make sure that this was something that was universally flattering. I can’t build to any one demographic or else I’m going to alienate all my other girls.”
The Disney’s The Lion King Limited Edition Collection by Sir John x Luminess will be available starting June 15th on LuminessCosmetics.com. It will also be sold on Ulta the following day on June 16th, as well as Ulta stores on July 1st.
Kingdom Sculpting Palette
According to Barnett, sculpting is the 2.0 of contouring—a softer version of the trend.
Can’t Wait to be Queen Eyeshadow Palette
Don’t be intimidated by that bold, ’70’s-esque green shade. Barnett says to have fun with it: “Bring a little disco into the daytime.”
Be Brave Matte Lipstick
$24 Luminess
This orangey, fifties red is one of Barnett’s favorites.
Be Prepared Liquid Lipstick
We get what he means about wanting to keep the packaging for 10 years.
Circle of Life Highlighter
Barnett loves that this highlighter gives a little bit of a luminous quality to the skin without being too glittery. He suggests applying it lower on the cheekbone if you have a lighter complexion, and aim higher if you have a deeper skin tone.

As soon as we heard there was going to be a Lion King remake with photorealistic computer animation, one of the first things we thought about is how beautiful it’s sure to look. The colors in the original are gorgeous enough, but with a 2019 spin, they’re crisp and bold and vibrant. So it makes perfect sense there would be a Lion King-themed makeup line, but we didn’t expect it to be this good. That’s probably because Beyoncé’s ultra-famous makeup artist Sir John is behind the line. (Bey lends her voice to the film as Nala. We cannot wait for it.) He teamed up with Luminess Cosmetics on an eight-piece limited-edition collection that’s sure to sell out even before the movie release.
The collection features an eyeshadow palette, sculpting palette, two liquid lipsticks, two bullet lipsticks, highlighter and lip balm, all in brilliant packaging. If you’re not familiar with Luminess, it’s been around for almost 25 years and started as an airbrush cosmetics line. They’ve since expanded into a full-service brand. Take a peek at the entire collection, below.

Be prepared, beauty lovers: a Lion King makeup collection is coming, and it’s fit for royalty.
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Beyoncé’s makeup artist Sir John has teamed up with Disney and Luminess Cosmetics for an eight-piece collection inspired by the iconic film, which is getting a live-action reboot this summer.
According to a press release, the collection pulls inspiration from the film itself, but also African culture. Sir John further explained in conversation with THR: “I was inspired while on safari in South Africa for Global Citizen, and I remember looking at how warm and rich the colors were, and I didn’t need to look any further than the landscape.” The designer added that the Lion King characters provided a unique opportunity for creativity, and he tried to capture the regal beauty and danger of lions and other big cats.
Bustle reports that the collection will be available on June 15 on LuminessBeauty.com, and will also be available online at Ulta’s website the following day. Shoppers will be able to purchase the Lion King collection at select Ulta locations beginning July 1, just in time for the highly anticipated movie, which hits theaters on July 19.
The collection itself can be previewed on Luminess’s website, and the popular Instagram account TrendMood also recently posted a breakdown of what makeup lovers can anticipate. Products range in price from $24 to $42, and each piece has a cute name referencing the classic Disney tale, such as the Be Brave Lipstick in Pounce or Lion Mane ($24), and the Circle of Life highlighter ($40). The collection also includes two palettes: the Kingdom Sculpting Palette for highlighting and contouring ($42), and the Can’t Wait to Be Queen Eyeshadow Palette ($42) featuring an array of peach and brown shades, along with deep emerald, a shimmering violet, and more majestic hues. Of course, there’s an option to purchase the entire vault for $250 if you can’t choose.
Like the reign of a king, this makeup collection is only going to be around for a limited time, so make sure you get your hands (or should I say paws) on it before it’s all gone.

Watch How Beyonce’s Makeup Artist Uses His New ‘Lion King’ Eye Palette for Daytime
If you’re like Us, you’re anxiously awaiting the premiere of The Lion King starring
Donald Glover as the voice of Simba, Beyoncé as Nala and more. And, while we’ve still got a bit of time until the film hits theaters July 19, Queen Bey’s makeup artist, Sir John, stopped by the Us Weekly studios to share a first look at his Disney’s The Lion King Limited Edition Collection by Sir John x Luminess. cosmetics line and offer some tips on how to use the safari-inspired products. Check it out the video above!
“With this Disney movie, there are no characters who are human. There are only animals,” the pro tells Us. “I had to imagine what would Nala look like if she was an actual woman.”
Calling the collection (which launches on LuminessCosmetics.com on June 15) “a labor of love,” Sir John explains that he was influenced by the “landscape in Africa” when creating the eye, face and lip shades in the range.
The jewel tone colors in the Can’t Wait to be Queen Eyeshadow Palette, for instance, draw from hues “you find in nature,” while the natural matte tones in the Kingdom Sculpting Palette call to mind the arid desert landscape. Oh, and they all just so happen to be perfect for creating a summery daytime eye makeup look.
Using a small fluffy brush, Sir John first applied the matte Safari Khaki shade along the lash line and all over the eyelid to create a neutral base and provide “a tiny bit of kick.” A hint of the metallic taupe Nala hue on the center of the lid and slightly darker Pride Rock on the corner added shimmer, depth and dimension.

To celebrate the release of The Lion King on July 19, Disney recruited Beyoncé’s makeup artist Sir John to create a makeup line inspired by the movie.
Sir John has created looks for a cast of big names, including Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Khloé Kardashian, Priyanka Chopra and Serena Williams, but he is perhaps best known for his work with Beyoncé, who is voicing the character Nala in the photo-real virtual-production remake of the cult cartoon.
The pair initially met at Tom Ford’s first womenswear show in 2010 and hit it off; Sir John quickly became Beyoncé’s go-to for everything from album art, music videos, concert tours and even her Super Bowl show and iconic September 2018 Vogue cover
The new Sir John x Luminess The Lion King makeup collection will be released on June 15.
So when the makeup artist first revealed he had a makeup line in the works last fall, speculation grew that he was working on a line with Beyoncé herself. “Disney first approached me last August, just as I was wrapping up [reality TV competition show] American Beauty Star,” Sir John told The Hollywood Reporter. “They told me B was voicing Nala and asked if I’d be interested in doing a line of cosmetics for them.”
Sir John was hesitant at first, however. “I was kind of like ‘She’s sold separately.’ But they said, ‘No we want to work with you and we want you to license it and find a partner to produce the collection.'” Sir John immediately reached out to Luminess Cosmetics, a brand known among professionals for its innovative airbrush technology, to help him realize his sweeping vision for the line, with a very tight deadline.

For women, shaving isn’t often the first strategy that comes to mind for removing unwanted facial hair, but it’s long been an open secret among beauty bloggers that it’s one of the best ways to get rid of hair and prep skin for easy makeup application. Now, with endorsements from both celebrity estheticians like Kate Sommerville and Bachelor contestants like Michelle Money, female facial shaving has gone mainstream, and experts agree it has several advantages over waxing or tweezing.
As Jeannel Astarita, founder of Just Ageless Body and Beauty Lab, says, “I never recommend waxing the face. It’s tugging at the skin and it very often causes blemish eruptions because the sebaceous glands are attached to the hair follicles. When you pull the hair follicle out with waxing or tweezing, you’re disrupting the sebaceous gland and bringing oils to the surface.” She also likes that shaving is a “gentle form of exfoliation,” that can improve skin texture. And it’s not true that hair grows back coarser after shaving. Dermatologist Dr. Janet Prystowsky explains that because a razor cuts hair at its midpoint, which has a wider diameter than its end, new growth can appear coarser. “With plucking and waxing the hair has been ripped out from the root so the next new hair from the follicle will have a finer leading tip,” she says. If you’re interested in a face shave, read on for five dermatologists and an esthetician’s recommendations for razors and shaving creams that’ll give you the smoothest, hair-free face.
This electric shaver is another one of Engelman’s favorites. She likes that it’s “quick and painless, cutting the hair on the surface of the skin. Since it is not pulling hair from the follicle, there is less irritation to the skin.”

If there’s any day of the year that might pose a threat against long-wear lipsticks, it’s Cupid’s big day. Finding effective long-wear lipsticks for Valentine’s Day, especially ones that will withstand aggressive smooches from whomever or whatever you may be spending the day with, can be tough, and poor research can result in a very messy make-out session.
Lucky for you (and your boo), I’ve rounded up a list of 13 lipsticks that will not budge, no matter what you get into on Valentine’s Day.
Give your lips a pop of color with this long-lasting lip stain that’s water-resistant for up to 18 hours. The mineral-based formula feels silky smooth on the lips and won’t slide off after a kiss.

Lately, our curiosity has been getting the better of us. Which airbrush foundations are the best? We did the research to find the eight formulas offering the most pristine, non-detectable finishes at the most feasible dollar amounts. Keep scrolling. Flawless, airbrushed complexions await.
